In Memory Of Homer

Homer arrived at BHCC’s front door, approximately June1996,  homeless, battered and hungry.    He was taken into our home, touching the  lives of many over the past years, until his death on February 8th.

After his arrival he was nursed back to health by the residents and staff, along with  the help of our local veterinarian’s office.  Over the years Homer had many close encounters, trying to battle other cats on the hill, being defeated a few times and  always had the resident’s and staff’s love to heal.

Homer became Barnesville Health Care Center’s mascot, appearing in our commercials, advertisements and in our monthly newsletter.  BHCC became referred to as “the home with Homer the cat.”

Homer often  roamed the halls and rooms of the facility, visiting different residents and had the privilege of choosing a number of places to lay down when he was tired. One of his favorite hiding places was in the organ and during the holidays he would spend lots of time under our many Christmas trees.   Homer had his special rooms, he knew where he could go and have extra loving attention and did have a few of his personal favorites.   There have been many tears shed since  Homer’s passing, with a memorial service being planned for the near future  and his burial will be in our “Garden of Love” as chosen by the residents.   In order to ease the pain of losing our cat, residents decided to adopt two kittens from the animal shelter, being delivered this past week.  Everyone is very  excited about having two kittens in our home to love.
